Cabin John Creek Local Park Playground Picnic Area

7401 MacArthur Boulevard

A free event for the entire family!

Please join Friends of Cabin John Creek for good food, cool drinks, and great company alongside the Cabin John Creek to celebrate the end of summer!

This event is FREE!

PARKING: Please consider parking in the side lot of the Cabin John Neighborhood Recreation Center (7425 MacArthur Blvd) if the parking by the playground is full.  Only a two minute walk from there down to the playground.

Cool prizes for the top 3 and the last finisher!

2:00 PM: The fun starts at the picnic area at the playground in Cabin John Local Park.  We will grill hot dogs/hamburgers and vegetarian products plus pizza and provide non-alcoholic drinks. You can hang out there, enjoy refreshments, get info on the county’s RainScapes program, and get a quick lesson in identifying the native plants and animals that are part of a healthy watershed.

3:00PM: We’ll go down to the creek and release the Duckies to race their way down the creek overcoming turbulence and various obstacles along the way.  Cool prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers and to the very last Duck.

Creek Critters!

We will also show you the “benthic macroinvertebrates” that live in the creek. These tiny, amazing critters tell us a story about the health of our streams.

  • Meet volunteers who check on the stream's health.

  • See what lives in the creek.

  • Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
