Cabin John Creek Clean-Ups this April

Friends of Cabin John Creek will celebrate Earth Week with the Annual Cabin John Creek Clean-Up Campaign. Volunteers have multiple cleanup locations to choose from, allowing us to spruce up the creek all the way from its headwaters in Rockville to its junction with the Potomac River – about 10 miles downstream.

Experts from Montgomery County’s RainScapes Rewards Program will give a brief presentation about the impacts of stormwater runoff, why the county is working with homeowners to address the impacts, what homeowners can do, and how the RainScapes Rewards Rebate system works.

This meeting is the launch of our new Stormwater Management Program for residents of Cabin John, Cabin John Gardens, and Riverhill. You'll learn how to slow down and soak up stormwater on your property, and get expert info and advice, sign up for a free site assessment, and find out how to apply for a RainScapes Rewards Rebate.

Eco-Movie Screening, Feb. 21: "Water Blues Green Solutions"

Join us at the screening of the inspirational documentary "Water Blues Green Solutions."  This 60-minute film explores the nexus of Stormwater Management and Green Design in a variety of settings.

2016 MLK Day of Service @ Locust Grove Nature Center, January 18

Join us on January 18, 9 - 11 am, at the Locust Grove Nature Center, where we will be cleaning up the area around the creek, pulling invasive plants, and helping to maintain and stabilize the walking trails.

ETo kick off our new stormwater program, we're measuring stormwater awareness of residents in our watershed. Help us get an idea of how much you know -- and don't know -- and what you'd be willing to do to address stormwater issues on your property.

Help Us Clean Up the Creek on Saturday, April 25

Even a creek can do with a little spring cleaning!  Spring rains and melting snow has swept a winter's worth of trash and debris from the surrounding area into the creek, and you can join Friends of Cabin John Creek on April 25 in picking it up and hauling it away.

Join Us for Trail Mulching and a Stream Cleanup on MLK Day!

Start off the new year by helping the creek on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service! Join Montgomery Parks and Friends of Cabin John Creek to work on a variety of projects around Locust Grove Nature Center, including a park and stream cleanup and trail mulching.  January 19.

 

Join Us for a Cabin John Creek Cleanup This Saturday!

We picked up a lot of trash this month at various spots along Cabin John Creek and its tributaries -- even a lawn mower -- but there's more to do! Join us at one of several cleanup sites this Saturday to help pick up trash near (and in) the creek. Let's finish the month strong!
